DSE Assessments

What is DSE, and why does it apply to me?

According to the Health and Safety Executive every employer has a responsibility to protect its workers from the health risks of working with display screen equipment (DSE), such as PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones.

These types of Display Screen Equipment are well documented to have associated problems arising from poor use, and are known to contribute to:

  • lower and upper back pain
  • shoulder and neck aches
  • eye strain
  • and many more work-related aches and pains.
The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations apply to workers who use DSE daily, for an hour or more at a time. We describe these workers as "DSE users".
This is NOT just for large employers, or Limited Companies - this applies to each and every employer, whether you have just yourself or 200 people on your payroll.

What can York Remedial Therapies do for me?

As a company that has treated and helped numerous people across York, and further afield, with their daily aches and pains we are very accustomed to seeing the effects of poor posture and bad working practices on the body. This gives us an added advantage over traditional "DSE Assessment" companies - in that not only can we undertake on-site DSE assessments for you and your employees, but we can also act as a first point of contact for any existing issues that your employees might be struggling with - thereby keeping your entire workforce physical Health and Safety under one roof!

When should a DSE Assessment be undertaken?.

A DSE Assessment should be undertaken when:
  • A workstation is setup for the first time - either for a new starter, or following an office refurbishment
  • A workstation is subject to a change of use - either should a new user start to use that workstation, or should one or more tasks that that user undertakes changes.
  • You suspect that the existing setup for one of your employees might be contributing to their pain or discomfort.

The Assessment will cover both setup and training, meaning that following a DSE Assessment not only will their workstation be compliant to HSE regulations, but your employees will understand the importance of posture - position of key workstation elements - light and glare - and also be knowledgeable and compliant with taking regular breaks or breaking up times of repetitive activity. Thereby providing them with the knowledge, and ultimately the responsibility, to ensure that they too remain complaint in the way in which they use their workstation!
Pricing Schedule.

  • DSE Assessments are charged at £70 per user at a single workstation.
  • Per user there would be an additional £30 charge per workstation beyond the first one.

This pricing structure is for individuals, or for small assessments up to an including 3 DSE Users. If you wish to organise a set of DSE Assessments for more than 3 users, please contact us directly to discuss a pricing plan.

Please note a full DSE Assessment includes an initial consultation to discuss your needs, and confirm the number of assessments required. A full on-site DSE Assessment of the number of workstations required, followed by a full set of e-reports which would be signed off by both the user and their direct managers. Should follow-up assessments be required following the purchase of equipment or changes to the workstation these are included in the original price.

In addition, should a larger number of users be assessed as part of a single pricing plan, a short workshop can also be run to explain to staff the need and advantages of the DSE Assessments - allowing greater levels of "buy-in" from the users that are going to be assessed.
